a) a sketch entirely using the mobile phone
This sketch was shot using my iphone 5 on Hipstamatics video app Cinematic. Cinematic is a smart video app that has the same square format as Hipstamatic. You can shoot clips of 3 to 15 seconds and then apply a filter. The filters offer a range of different looks but all of them have a built in ‘random’ effect similar to Hipstamatic. This review of Cinematic from techcrunch includes comments from Hipstamatic founder Lucas Buick who notes the differences in filters:
“Certain filters have really strong transitions, like the ‘Robert,’ for example. It mirrors and reflects your footage between clip transitions.”
Here is a sketch I put together in Cinematic using the Robert filter in Cinematic. I then uploaded this directly to Vimeo, you can also share on a range of social networks.
An upgrade to Cinematic Pro allows you to import videos from your photo library into Cinematic which is great as you can use the filters to combine clips in new ways. Cinematic gives the filmmaker a strong array of tools allowing you to shoot either long or square, to alter shutter speed, exposure, focus, white balance and iso. Once clips are shot you can also adjust volume as well as contrast, saturation and brightness.
